Blueberry ‘Maru’ (rabbiteye) is a standout variety, producing generous crops of large, dark blue berries set against striking blue-green foliage. In spring, it puts on a lovely display of white, bell-shaped flowers with a soft pink blush—reminiscent of the delicate Lily of the Valley.
Well-suited to gardens and containers alike, ‘Maru’ thrives in all regions of New Zealand and performs especially well in northern areas such as Auckland. Its upright growth habit makes it easy to manage and harvest. While self-fertile, planting it alongside other varieties like Powder Blue, or Rahi can increase fruit yield significantly. Fruits February to April.
Like all blueberries, ‘Maru’ is a powerhouse of nutrition—offering proven benefits for heart health, mental clarity, bone strength, glowing skin, healthy blood pressure, and more.
Ripening in March, berries develop their best flavour when left on the bush for 5–7 days after turning blue. Plant in full sun for optimal fruiting, though it can handle some afternoon shade. Prune out any dead, damaged, or weak wood annually, and after 4–5 years, remove older canes at the base to stimulate fresh, vigorous growth.
Delivery after the 20th July 2025.
